Houston County Georgia Named To Honor John Houstoun, Not Sam

By Reginald Sullivan | June 1, 2009

Houston County Georgia is one of five very big counties in the state. Created in 1821, Houston County has the distinction of being one of the fastest growing counties in Georgia. The county seat, Perry, Georgia, was incorporated in 1824; it is famous for being the first official town in the county as well as the geographic center of the state.

The correct pronunciation of the name of the county, where you’ll find the towns of Byron, Centerville, Perry, Warner-Robins the largest city in the county, and the Robins Air Force Base; along with a host of other unincorporated communities with names like Pabst, or Houston Lake or Sand Bed or Kathleen, is HOWS-ton. Originally it was spelled H-o-u-s-t-o-u-n. That’s different than the city in Texas. Contrary to conventional wisdom the county in Georgia is named for a former governor of the state, not the Texas military hero, politician and statesman Sam Houston who was from Virginia. This historic county measures 380 square miles of which 377 square miles is land and the remaining square mileage is water. The county is almost dead center in the state.Folks who live in Houston County have close access to Bibb County, Georgia to the north; Dooly County, Georgia to the south. Bleckley County is southeast and Pulaski County, Georgia is in the south-southeast. Macon County, Georgia in the southwest is where you’ll find the historic city of Macon. Twiggs County Georgia is in the east and Peach County is west of Houston County.
These are the counties adjacent to Houston County Georgia.

Travel by car in the county on Georgia State Highways 7, 11, 26, 96, 127, 227 and 247.
The Interstate is I-75. U.S. Highways include 41, 129 and 341.

John Houstoun, who was an American lawyer and statesman from Savannah represented the state at the Continental Congress in Philadelphia 1775. Houstoun was a strong supporter of the move toward independence. His achievement as the first governor of Georgia born in the state of Georgia is commemorated in that the county bears his name even though the way it is spelled has changed.

By Reginald Sullivan | April 13, 2009

Foreclosed homes for sale in the middle area have reached an all time high! Banks are taking Offers! Updated 05/31/2009

I can assist you with all foreclosed homes in the middle GA area.  I also monitor daily the best buys on the market that are competitive with foreclosure prices.  Troy Young Realty has a number of satisfied customers that have purchased their homes 40-50% below market value.

Troy Young Realty specializes in foreclosed property.  This means you will benefit greatly with an agent that’s negotiating on your behalf in the purchase.

A foreclosure purchase requires a preapproval/ prequalification letter from your bank or lender as well as $1,000 earnest money binder.

A popular loan alternative would be a purchase renovation loan, which also provides funds for the usual renovations associated with foreclosed property.    I’ve attached a list of some foreclosed properties in the area. Some of these homes may or may not be listed by Troy Young Realty. However, I will be happy to sell you one of these great buys.  For further assistance in your purchase or prequalification, please give me a call at 478-447-9517 or respond by email to realestatemidgeorgia@gmail.com.
